Reclaiming the back yard

Our mason, Phil Ruth--who did a fantastic job making the new wall look just like the old one--is a distant relative of Babe Ruth, who was from Baltimore. After Phil finished our wall, we laid out three beds. Jill came up with the design of serpentine brick walls. Scott, a friend who's crazy about backyard ponds, convinced me to put one in. I did some research and found that a 3 x 4-foot stock trough would be best because I wanted to raise the pond so that our dogs wouldn't get into it. Jill convinced me to cover it with stone. It was a trial-and-error process. To level the yard and create the flower beds, we ended up moving tons of dirt. The photo below is the garden's second year. More photos follow.
