I Love your new website! Just like everything else you have done since 2000, it also has grown into a true labor of love! I have throughly enjoyed following your & Jill's journeys. It reminds me of my own, back during the late 70's, when my husband & I also bought an abandoned old carriage house turned residence and slowly rebuilt & recaptured it's ambiance. Unfortunately we had to sell it when we were relocated to the Netherlands due to employment, but the people who purchased from us are still there & have maintained it. I still go by it whenever I visit that part of the country. So I have adopted your renovation to relive my joy & share yours. You have done a fabulous job and I will continue to enjoy any future progress or just your enjoyment of your labors. Best regards to the both of you.
Christine de Visser
Great job on the light gallery. Your passion is greatly admired. Hope all is well. My next project will be on a 260 acre redwood forest. Hopefully all Green. Alan Lane
Aloha Ron & Jill,
I've finally found a little time to view your web site. I like the new look. At one time I had looked over every bit you had posted. Now, with all the new stuff, I'll have to repeat that so I make sure I don't miss anything.

Yours is definitely a labor of love. I hope that you're not too pooped to enjoy your labors. I love what you did with the front of the house. The green and black iron fences are equally beautiful. It's hard to say which I like better. That canopy is awesome. I'm glad to see you can find people who can work with your ideas.

One thing that I've noticed in some pictures of Victorian houses is that they seem overstuffed. Too much seems to be crowded throughout the inside (and outside) of the house. But, you seem to be able to add more and more touches that are simple yet striking. Not to mention they're functional.

Keep up the great work. I look forward to finishing my tour.

Take care,
Ronnie
Hello Ron and Jill, I so enjoyed your renovation story and enjoyed seeing the photo shots of your various projects.in your home I think your home is fabulous. Craig and I ( my husband to be) are experiencing the same situation of trying to renovate our old home which we love so much I plan on purchasing your book. May our Lord continue to bless you and Jill throughout your lives together....Carrie Powell

I found your house renovation blog by chance yesterday and was immediately hooked! So far I went through only few renovations you did - kitchen and butler's pantry and I LOVED it!! I even saved all the pics to potentially use it on my house (if you mind pls tell me). So I decided I will immediately send you an email with kudos. The end result is amazing!

I live in the Netherlands and am in the process of buying old Dutch farm with reed roof. It will need renovation so I started to look online for renovating/decorating inspiration because I find Dutch style a bit "cold" when it comes to interior, but I also need something that fits with the house. What you did to your kitchen and the pantry is beautiful and brings to mind British coziness with modern twist. It is exactly what I like! You got down every detail perfect, from polished floors in pantry, hinges, stainless steel (which I am not fan of, but I am reconsidering now), stove in the old fireplace.. I can go on and on. I loved all your sinks too!

Anyways, just wanted to say hi and that from what i've seen so far, you did a great and a huge job of renovating your house. I will check all your posts. Kind Regards, Jelena

I met you at Elkton Antiques. I liove what you have done. You should have house tours it is so amazing. Thank you for sharing your home and work with me. Linda :)

I absolutely love your library. That is awesome. The rest of the house is pretty good too! James

Jill -- Your home -- and the journey you took to get there -- are fantastic! Love to you and Ron -- hope to meet him someday. Cuz Gretchen

hey this is a very nice write up on the house. I can't believe the work you have done on it. :) All this work inspires me to find my own fixer upper and start restoring. Good luck with all, I look foreword to more tips on fixing this house. Phil Francisco

Hi Ron,
I enjoyed reading through your website! I loved the picture of your annuciator, or "servant's register". The one in my home was nearly identical. I just finished stripping the paint and refinishing it. I put some before & after pics on OldHouseWeb if you're interested:
servant's annunciator
Keep up the great work! Regards,
Don

well you have obviously done a great job with the house. Whenever I read a
story like yours I just think: God bless you for saving that house! I really
do feel like God smiles on restorations. You have saved the work of long
gone craftsmen and saved a piece of the American scenary. I hope you get
filthy rich from doing it. If you have any interst in my background Google Merril House, Jacksonville, Florida and look under Jacksonville Historic
Society. This houose was even worse than yours but it is now someething that
will be there forever.I fell pretty good that at least one thing I have done
in my life will live on.

Comments: I just spent the last 2 hours (while I was supposed to be watching Pixar short films with my children) falling head over heels with your story, and your photos, and your determination! I think my husband will sleep on the couch tonight, as I have irritated him, and the kids, by interrupting the movie with my outbursts of: Seth! I love this couple!; You HAVE to read this!;and look at this picture!
We bought our 1920's dutch colonial in Guilford (the servants end) almost 2 years ago and are itching to start renovations. I'd love to know how you went about scouting out all of your resources for period appropriate windows, doors, cabinetry, etc.
Thank you for sharing your story. It was very inspiring!! I think we'll hit the salvage yard tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Megan Unterschute

I have never felt compelled to respond to anything on the internet, seriously! I am now, your story, relationship and fortitude touched me, what a beautiful job on the house, wish you both all of the best.

You guys transformed it from house to HOME!!!! There should be medals for people like you guys this is an accomplishment like a book something to cherish for many years to come. You give us encouragement thanks enjoy!!! Diane

Thanks so much for the paint formula! I really do appreciate you taking the time to do this. Your kitchen color looks like just what I'm looking for, and I've found that with greens (and yellows) it can be so hard to find a match.
Thanks again for your wonderful website, and for sharing your home renovation with the rest of us! You two are so inspirational -
Tracie

You know, I was never into this type of style... until I saw this house. Seriously, this is the most beautiful house I've EVER seen and you completely turned me on to the Victorian-era. I actually cried a little for this house at first but you have made it better than any newly built houses I've seen. Beautiful work. Just beautiful. Heather

beautiful work, you
two should be proud! Building a new home is a challenge to a relationship, let alone restoring one. Thanks for sharing! W. Fox

Ron and Jill, have you two ever thought about doing a book? You are indeed an inspirational team for the rest of us lovers of the past. You have maintained the spirit of this place with grace and elegance. I would be the first to buy such a book

I think the fact that the house is continually improving is an irresistable part of it's mystique and charm! Bravo/brava to you both! And best of luck to you on your further adventures! Good health and godspeed to you, Ron and Jill. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Who knows how many people you've helped just by allowing us a peek into your years of hard work and determination? Your story made my day, seriously. Thank you :) Beckawee

This looks amazing yall. When my step mom watches remodeling shows on tv i tend to roll my eyes and leave the room. I actually found this by clicking on the wrong thing on the AOL welcome screen. Glad i did. It's so beautiful. FuzyXGweenXDucky

I agree with everyone else...great job! You give the rest of us hope doing our own projects! W. Nothern

This house reminds me so much of my own. When i first purchased it I had to go through with a snow shovel and scoop up dead animals. Its come a long way but still needs work. I have one room left unpainted becuase I can not find a color I like. THIS is the color - photo 8. How can i get those colors? you said you mixed different ones ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Rebecca Schnirch

Yay Baltimore! (I live down St. Paul Street in Mt Vernon.) I loved looking through your website, though I am not a home-rehabber myself. I looked on Amazon for your "Renovation" book, but I guess it's not quite at that point yet?

My children tease me that I "must have been a Wealthy Victorian in a Previous Life" because of my taste in Queen Anne gingerbread houses, ornate clothing, & knick-knacks. I think YOU'RE IN MY HOUSE -- & oddly enough--I was born in Baltimore! Oldest daughter just graduated with double major: Architecture AND Interior Design (hmm...wonder where she got it?)so next time we are all Back East for family functions, I'm sure we'll drive by from Dundalk or Glen Burnie to see your SUPERB RESULTS!!! You inspire me anew that dreams CAN come true . . . e v e n t u a l l y . KraftyKritterz

What wonderful foresight you had to see the possiblities and restore. You have created a beautiful home.

Finally! The ending to "The Money Pit"! I always knew it would end that way! :O) Awesome! Cheryl

I am interested in architecture and, in particular, Victorian era architecture. You two have done a wonderful thing, restoring that row house. Congratulations on past efforts and good luck on future ones.

As a former Baltimorean, I LOVE the beautiful old structures, and would give anything to live in one--but where I lie in the midwest, we basically have new subdivisions and now McMansions. You did a beautiful job. Tina

Personally, I liked it the way it was.

Hi There, Kudos!!! It is nice to see people restoring great old historic places:-) We have an old country store in Covesville, Virginia that we are very proud of. We sell antiques out of & live in the store (a true ???mom & pop???). We know how much work & money it takes, but it sure is worth it. Congrats!! We enjoyed viewing your photos (we have tons of our own on our website) & are happy to know others are out there that share the passion;-) Sincerely, Sarah & Rick

THE HOUSE DOES LOOK BETTER THAN IT DID BUT IT IS SO COLD AND UNCOMFORTABLE LOOKING. Not my cup of tea. Vicki

Being a native Baltimore girl, but now live in Calif., I am so pleased to see couples like you investing in the historically beautiful homes Balto. has to offer. How tragic that all that damage had been done to it!! You will not find many of these gorgeous victorians in San Diego!! I wish you many yrs. of happiness in your lovely home! Andrea, San Diego, CA

It takes vision to see the glory under all that graffiti and damage. What a wonderful restoration! Having bought a similarly damaged [but not so beautiful]home, I appreciate all the teamwork and challenges.Susan

It is very nice to see that people know there values in a home. A lot of TLC and money and see how beautiful the old can come to life. Just love it. pg

absolutely amazing. karen

BEAUTIFUL,, HATS OFF. I HAVE A BRICK CHURCH/CONVERTED APRTMENT HOUSE FOR SALE IN THE SPOKANE WA. AREA. ANYONE INTERESTED.?

Wow... just amazing! You guys rock! Homes like these need to be preserved in this way. They are so beautiful, and none will ever be built like them again in this cookie-cutter home world. Amy k.

I am in awe of your home improvement. You bring inspiration and love to the bygone era. Congratulation.

Having been a Realtor for over 15 years- "Buyer Beware" doesn't even seem to touch what you found yourself tackling! I'm in awe of the beautiful results. You definitely saw a diamond in the rough...now all I see is your priceless diamond! Pam in Ohio

You guys are AMAZING! What a beautiful job you did, and you managed to stay together in the bargain! Kudos to you both. That stairwell is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I can't believe that you had NO experience! You give us ALL hope about manageing our own minor repairs!!!! Lynnsqtpa2ts

Wow! What a beautiful renovation! You deserve many happy years in your lovely home...Marianna

What is that beautiful paint color you used in the bedroom? Thank you.

I wanted to see that beautiful bay window before you fixed it up and would enjoy beore & after shots. Even the bathroom says before/after but I can only see after! Great job--house looks like a home. Martha A in Allentown.

This is a fabulous job - good on you both! And apologies for those so-called "Greeks" who were inane enough to do so much damage; this would include whoever that is who keeps trying to tell you the worst of "what was". Keep going - the work is astounding! Dee

What a beautiful restoration! It is nice to see a home brought back from ruin. Good job!

In a word..."Awesome!" Congratulations to you both. My brother has a 100 year old house that he is bringing back room by room in Flint, Michigan. I don't have the patience for redoing old houses, but I certainly appreciate their splendor when they are done.
Andrea W.

Thank you so very much for saving this historical place so elegantly. Angel wings to you!!

Thank you for taking on such a major project to restore this lovely home

You guys transformed it from house to HOME!!!! There should be medals for people like you guys this is an accomplishment like a book something to cherish for many years to come. You give us encouragement thanks enjoy!!! Penny

I've looked at all the photos and your house is absolutely GORGEOUS !! I'm absolutely in awe of what a great job you've done restoring this old frat house !!!!

This color in the dining room is glorious. Jill really has a talent for mixing colors. Would love to have this talent myself...

You guys did a beautiful job on your home. I wish there were more people like you to save these beautiful homes. Thank You The Wolfman

You have done a fabulous job restoring a beautiful home. Congratlations! Enjoy your life there. They dont make homes like that anymore

YOU TWO HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB!!! ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME

Kudos and congratulations to you both. Thanks for sharing your wonderful before and after story. It is truly inspiring. You both are visionaries and probably a tad obsessive compulsive to take on such a project. I have renovated many homes with my partner and it really is a labor of love. Many naysayers commented on the foreclosures we purchased, only to be wowed at the end results. You did a meticulous renovation, with much attention to detail. I very much liked that you tried to keep things historically correct, yet still adhered to a budget. Renovations are easy if you have money, but challenging if you don't. Your paint and fixture choices are impeccable. Also, the Ikea modern shelves work wonderfully in the "Dream Library". Please know that your hard work, sweat and toil has inspired many in your neighborhood and online. BRAVO! Greek Revival

You did such a wonderful job.

Wow, what a difference! Bethany

great job and smart did most of it yourselves didnt run to home depot for new flea markets etc good thinking love home depot but saved monies too my husband did this for yrs restore and shame on city for letting this house get this bad and even more shame on colleges that allow this to go on in or communities loved old homes god bless enjoy!! i used to work with my husband restoring and wall paper was brutal!! it tested us so much!!!

tremendous job it look wonderful

What a gorgeous piece of architucture. Hooray for caring so much!! You have a beautiful piece of history.

Congratulatioons on seeing the real glory behind the reality of who our present day students can be b- and often are! Wish their parents had had to invest a little sweat equity in shaping up the fraternity =- never mind former glory - how about decent? You did a great job - enjoy!!

Dang that's a lotta books [in teh library]! Where do y'all keep the People magazines?

WOW

Wow! So impressed. And you got the rats out, too. My dream is to restore an old queen ann and still be able to afford to heat it. I live in an 1896 colonial and all the trim is painted white. It absolutely drives me bonkers!

Beatiful job! I'm envious! Suggestion: you should reposition the piano to face the room, not out the window. That way you can face your guests as your perform, plus it will just look better, asky any decorator!

Oh..what a change!! Great job guys!

this is just exquisite ~ Baltimore thanks you! Maryland neighbor

The room with the large bookshelf is just gorgeous. It looks really antique and lovely. You've given me inspiration--I want my own old house to fix! Ellie

Love the stained glass. Sorry you got lead poisoning, but at least you've got something to show for your "wounds". Plainly Jane

What a labor of love. Maybe you can share your house with the rest of the world by opening a bed and breakfast with a portion of it? This is the best article on restoration I have read about. I love this Old House Magazine. Mike T.

wishing both of you happiness and good times in your home..both of you are definitely to be congratulated..perseverance and hard work by both of you has definitely proven to be worth while..Congratulations and Well Done. Ron Davis

Hi! Just wanted to say, Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! What a beautiful job you both did! I always said to my husband, I always wanted to live in a old Victorian Home, but it never happened. I live in a very beautiful place called Marco Island, Florida. The pictures are great! The best to both of you! Georgesredhead

What a beautiful job you both have done!! I can't believe what was done to this home before you purchased it! What's wrong with this world today? I hope you have many years of love and happiness; you certainly have lots of memories......... marilyn M.

OH MY LORD GOD BLESS U BOTH,IT'S MORE THEN BEAUITFULL.I HOPE JILL IS FINE NOW & VERY HAPPY I LOVE IT.MANY HAPPY YRS. TO U BOTH, I WOULD HAVE LEFT U & SAID HE'S NUT'S. BUT NUT'S IS GREAT. GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS U GUY'Z JONI

I cannot begin to imagine your labors. We live in MD, not too far from Baltimore. I have great admiration for you both, and wish you the very best. Mary Shoup

Very well done. I went down a similar path with diamond in the rough, 19th century Queen Ann Vic in the Seattle area. Seven years of hard work...but it was worth it. Don't you agree? You learn a rather lot of skills, about yourself and about your spouse. JSC

you can get the heavy metals out of your body with chelation therapy a blood cleansing technique most really good naturapaths know where to refer you for help -- diann corsaro

this house is unbelieveable! How beautiful and valuable this home is. The work done on this home is incredible after how much damage had been done, it's a wonder it was saved at all! How proud the owners should be of what they have accomplished. Linda Exton

Beautiful color!! What is it called? Woul love this in my dining room. Louise Beceker

Love the colors, makes you feel comfortable, love the fainting couch in bedroom.Wonderful job! HAVE HAPPY & HEALTHY DAYS HERE Roseann NJ

I love the color! It is amazing! I now want to paint my living room that color Rhonda

I am an Victorian type person. I love what you did in the bedroom. Just lovely. My taste in my home is somewhat victorian, it has such a warm feeling. Love what you did and I wish you lot's of happiness in your home. Love it just love it. PG

I see this house and peak through the windows to my beloved old neighborhood. You have done a beautiful job with a house that I am well familiar with the exterior of. Charles Village has seen some gifted visionaries of its fine gems, you two are such. Judi

Wow you guys did a great job !!!!!!!! My husband and I are thinking of doing the same thing but we are afraid. There are so many questions in my mind about this ??? But you guys worked as a team and did a great job the house looks beautiful.Laural

I mean this in a nice way.You two REALLY deserve each other!! WHAT an amazing job you've done!Congratulations, and good luck to both of you! I live in the Kansas City area, and the city just abounds with places like this begging for restoration. If I had the money and the time, there's one in particular I'd love to tackle. Iknow it could be spectacular! Cathy

What a beautiful home.Kudos to both of you! My husband and i took on this same challenge about 8 years ago. Four years later, we live in our dream home, a 1916 Southern Venacular Farmhouse, but what a journey! Sandy

You have got to be the bravest couple that has ever taken on the task of remodeling. I have to tell you how it saddens me to see the disrespect from the new college kids. Ahem!! (brats) God bless you both with many years of happiness in your gorgeous home. I too thank you for a job well done. Sincerely, Jerry Ann

Hi Ron & Jill - Wonderful to see you two get the recognition this work deserves - I've loved every visit and every tour! Jill, I still don't know how you managed to take scrap paints and find the right color blends in so many rooms but it's wonderful. Congrats again! Jealous John

This master bedroom floors me - I want to wake up in it every morning. sell it to me, OK? :) Shaniqua

You did a beautiful job on this house.Especially given what you started with.Good luck,it's a great home. Anthony Marino

As a remodeler, I commend you on the courage and fortitude and vision you had with this historic home. You both are such an inspiration to many! Randy

I'm only 22 years old, but have alot of respect for the quality and detail of older homes like the one you refurnished. It just makes me sick that people could destroy apart of our history in such a manner. I also have alot of respect for people like you to take on such a large project. All of the hard work has paid off because that home is beautiful! Tianna

FABULOUS!!! Taffy Molasses

What's wrong with the color is white-on-white. The wall is a yellow white and the marble and support are gray/blue whites. Can't win 'em all. Craigor

You did a very good job. Hovik

I think it is gorgeous....and I know what work it was..Beautiful Job! D'Ann

This is so interesting!! You both had a strong constitution !! Beautiful home. Jane, Bradenton, Fla.

Whats wrong with this picture [of the bathroom]? I think its the flexible pipe supplying the hot and cold taps. Sure it is easier, but it jars with the period pieces. Chezfur

I love your home.Congratulations on accomplishing so much. The sink is a beautiful addition. By Queen Anne-era standards, the bathroom size was considered luxurious; Hearst Castle bathrooms for guests were no larger. Why not install a more attractive commode, an old-fashioned one with the tank near the ceiling, and perhaps a low, thin modesty wall between the seat and sink? Jettie

Just shows you, once again, what working women can do. grampat

I think what's off could be the plumbing showing and also that the toilet and sink are so near each other. The sink is so fabulous, it should be a focal point but is squeezed up next to the toilet. The owners could try having a skirt made that could be attached under the sink with velco maybe to hide the plumbing. A pretty fabric could add more color (also missing). jgrenko

Thank you for posting your story! Your work is inspiring & the house was definitely work restoring. heather

We bought a reproduction, low-flow toilet that looks very similar to and is the same height as this one for our rebuild. Higher than a normal sink. Gives a nice vintage look to a bathroom. We also have a two legged sink next to our toilet. Had plumber put supply valves up high so not seen, but couldn't do anything about the drain pipe. rivamica

Wow! I love stories like this. The house id beutiful. In this photo the toilet tank seems taller than the sink. Optical illusion or a sink for vertically challanged individuals? Kathy

Astonishing how much work theboth of you put into this home. It is a home indeed! As for the frat brothers. If these are our leaders of tomorrow, we have a lot to be concerned about. I got teary eyed when seeing the before and after.. I can imagine that taking on such a project, 'cemented' your relationship for eternity. Thanks so much for sharing your Labor of Love with all of us. Karine

BEAUTIFUL WORK !!!!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB Lynn

Beautiful, extraordinary. You did an excellent job!! Enjoy every nook and cranny. joann D

O nearly flipped when I saw this picture [of the lamp on your newel post]. My g'parents had a fixture on the newel post in their old late 19th century home, almost identical to this one. It sure brought back memories. All I got from their home were some gorgeous hanging light fixtures. A stupendous, 4 story home with a full basement we stayed in in the summer, like a cool house. The 4th floor was a finished ballroom. What memories !!!!!! Thank you Ron and Jill, for preserving the beauty of the past for us. Ann

When young and full of energy i longed for the money to do a lovely old house someday. Now have the money but am old and the energy long ago burned away just doing the daily routine. I admire your creatativity, skill and good taste. Sigh - maybe in my next life? :-) Carol in Indiana

ahhh! This [chandelier] reminds me of the ceiling fixtures in the Kmart I used to run in Manhattan on Broadway! The building is owned by the Astor family (of Titanic fame) and is overseen by the Historical Society. Isn't is a shame that we need Societies to make sure we don't destroy history? You two are awe-inspiring and really need to open your own restoration consulting firm! Miriam fron Florida!

This house, and the labor of love that brought it to be, are an absolute inspiration. I agree that if you wrote a book on the beginning-to-date process, and all you went through and learned, I would buy it in a heartbeat. You made a dream come true. God bless you both! beckawee

THis is a great renovation. I love all the time and effort put into making it look historic. WOnderful job and great finds. I love the light on the staircase. Paula

This house is beautiful! I wonder why marybeth is even looking at the pictures if she is not interested? Good job home owners! donnaltb

Our present is built on the past. If Mary Beth does not like stuff from the past, she'd best get her club to kill some supper, get a pile of rocks to count with (if she knows how to count), a stick to draw in the sand with (no TV), and a hollow log to beat on (no iPod, either). Some people cannot be happy unless they are angry at or with someone or something all the time. Poor child.... Cowboy Jack

Oh, poor, poor Mary Beth. I'd bet your own home is tres chic, isn't it? Up to date, all new everything? Yeah, right !!!!! You can't fit all that into a trailer, dear. Ann

What a fabulous job these homeowners have done. As for Mary Beth, while I understand that period style is not for everyone, didn'rt your momma tell you that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? As for the homeowners, thanks for sharing these great before and after pictures! Anonymous

Amazing. This is one of the most beautiful homes that I have ever seen and it's even more breathtaking once you've seen the before pics! Texgirl

you have put so much love into this house. It is amazing. TOni

Kitten, you are right on target in your comments about marybeth. The beauty of bygone a era is what has brought yhis country to where we are today, and redoing this beautiful old home takes so much more imagination and talent than moving into a so called modern new home cookie cutter house. So sad for you marybeth. Mrs. B in K.C.

marybeth...you are %*#@%& up...what are you an uppity**** the world has no use for people like you...you would take all the history out of the world. Kitten

You couldn't give me this house...I'm not into the old **** from salvage yards...yuck. marybeth

wonderful old light fixture. What a great idea for the plastic medallion. vewrla potter

Wow!!! What a find, it just drips with the memories of a past life style!!! Cool!! Hareloom

Wherever did you find this servant's register? It fits in with your entire home. Joan Dee

The staircase is beautiful, along with everything else you did. Nice job! joe Boardman Ohio

Gorgeous absolutely gorgeous. You both did an amazing job, I love this house, congratulations! Elle

I truly believe in the statement of never being finished with an old house. When I was 12 we started turning the attic of our 100 yr house into a beadroom suite for my older sister and me. From no walls or anything(well junk of course), to 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 dressingrooms, a sittingroom, and storage. We built the walls, painted, installed nearly everyting, including the floors. The floors were pine, a few pieces were birds eye, and they were free, but only bcause we went to an old abandoned (it had a leak in the celing) gym in Texas and pulled up ALL the boards by hand(one of the soggest, most trying chores of the whole projet that i will never do again). It took us 3 months to install the 3in boards over the entire floor. And of course we are still not finished.:-) I have full respect for yall and what you went through, I don't know if we could've stayed sane remodeling that long.:-) Julienne

Ron and Jill -- Many, many happy years together in your beautiful sanctuary. To Bill in Tennessee: I live in CA, and would love to have a partner to do this with. Used to have a 1917 craftsman -- but didn't have the right partner. I can be a Jill!!! allison

This balustrade is spectacular and rhythmic- art.Builders today dont have this creatiity or love for the rhythm of beauty. wour loss of values has influenced the mdiocrity of everything. but you have a love for what is within the house's spirit and how you deserve your mansion- for having eyes to see potential-thus you partake of the original values and have an original masterpiece. we need always look for the potential in the common things -even people we are and we know. mary ann rodgers, williamsburg VA

The craftsmanship, work and love you put into making this structure a home is truly amazing! Looking at those 'before' pictures, there are not many people that would have had your vision. Simply Marvelous!!! Atlay Washington

Oh My Gosh! What an incredible staircase! The detail work, is just stunning. I remember growing up in an old Victorian with a wrap around front porch in Long Branch, NJ. This home brought back a lot of memories for me. Thank you and congratulations on time and money well spent. It will always be your legacy! Jeanne

beautiful work! Your love and caring show in each photo. Enjoy your home. I have a "grand old lady" also, and every minute my husband and I spent on her may not have been the easiest, but it has by far been extremely rewarding. Have a happy life in your beautiful home. CWC

just breath taking, god bless ,good job

What a beautiful job you two have done. It's amazing the transformation that has accured with four loving hands. I love the staircase. I love to do things like this but can't do it myself. Thanks again for all the wonderful moments that I have had the pleasure of looking at your pictures. Donna

Does Jill have any sisters?? You guys did a wonderful job. Bill in Tennessee

Absolutely a supreme renovation you two have done. I give no tolerance to what the collage age idiots did to the house, but I am wondering how much of the house had to be brought up to code whether the collage criminals (short list I???m sure they did so much more) painted the walls or destroyed the staircase. Two thumbs up to the two of you for restoring such a fine vintage landmark. sndwave

Unbelievable! I live in Baltimore and thought gee, that looks like Baltimore or Chicago. My project is a much more modest home in Patterson Park and I share your love for salvage. Also love 'Oops' paint from Home Depot. It is certainly a learning process, isn't it? Congragulations and I am sure your love will stand the test of time just like your magnificent home. J. Walsh

When I was in college in the early 1980's,I lived on the third floor of a row home on St. Paul Street. Your home brings back memories. However, the row house that I lived in wasn't nearly as beautifully finished as yours is. You make me long to live in Charles Village again. Congratulations! Gloria

I have a few things to say. First,I was about to purchase a sorority home near Univ of MD, College Park and I have changed my mind. Your home is absolutely beautiful and I am sure it is full of memories. Ones that you could not even imagine. I am for living together before marriage because you see all of each other, all of the skeletons. I used to be against it as my college aged daughter has been waiting for the right man before she becomes intimate. I believe you have to know someone in every which way before you make such a commitment that should never be broken. Lastly, when someone says they are done re-finishing their home, that is when they usually move out!! I have seen it so many times. Good Luck to you guys and God Bless!

..it's a "work in progress" and it is beautiful. Just had my 75th birthday & always wanted to do what you are doing. There is so much character and sooo many secrets in your old house. I'll keep checking back to watch your progress. Katherine

''LOVE IT., LOVE IT' WOULD LOVE TO LIVE IN THIS 'GRAND OLE HOUSE., THE PASS MEMIORS' HAS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE.,JEANNE

What an amazing home! Congratulations! Karla Meier

We are no contrators, but we've built two homes together and believe us, we know about the stress of deadlines and codes and relationship strain!! It is so worth it and as far as experience it's all about what you two have done -- Courage to try and stick with it!! This stair case is to die for!! Hareloom

I cannot believe you guys did all this without any past expericence. It looks better than if you hired a professional. mjenera

Wow! Beautiful work Dr. Tanner, very inspiring. I'm sure I could write like Wharton if I lived in a house like that! K.B. Kelly Loyola '07

What a gorgeous house! Congrats to you both. My husband and I started renovating our home (and we are still at it after 12 years) which was condemned when we bought it. It truly is a labor of love. It is extremely hard work and it definitely tests your relationship. It is wonderful to see old homes brought back to their former grandness and beauty, instead of being torn down (which, quite honestly is easier to do!) Keep at it. It will definitely be worth it when you are done. Good Luck debbie in michigan
Karla Meier
